Though her time at Hunter College was brief, Professor Harmon made a profound impact on the Department of Anthropology at Hunter College. As a prominent paleoanthropologist, Harmon led field expeditions to the Rift Valley of Ethiopia and conducted exciting research on the hominin hindlimb. In conjunction with this work, Harmon was also a talented and influential teacher and mentor. Harmon was especially dedicated to advising students in our Masters Program in Anthropology, and inspired many to pursue research careers in biological anthropology. In addition, Harmon was an exceptional friend and wise colleague, always willing to provide support and advice. Though her effervescent spirit and ceaseless energy can never be replaced, Harmon’s contributions to our lives will remain a cherished memory for her colleagues, friends, and students at Hunter College and beyond.

During the early 1990’s, the Electronic Division invested very heavily into surface mount technology and automatic testing. In addition to the above, the Electronic Division instituted a formal continuous improvement process in which a fulltime programming group was employed to improve the efficiencies of the manufacturing processes.

Born in Tallahassee in 1924, his parents were Clarence Grover and Mary Jenkins Kimbell. He was predeceased by his wife, Ann Stark Kimbell, sisters Mary Clare Pichard and Elizabeth Weinreb Elliott . He graduated from Emory College in 1944 with a BS-Electrical Engineering. He moved to Syracuse NY where he was an engineering and program manager for the General Electric Corporation. He retired after a forty year career and was a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

The sculpture bases, or tables, that I create are based on a “glue-and-stitch” technique developed in the early 1960’s for boat-building, specifically canoes and kayaks. It relies on the use of epoxy resin and fiberglass cloth to create a level of strength well beyond that of the “wooden” components. Analysis has determined that this technique is up to 10 times stronger than traditional woodworking approaches to boat building and also considerably lighter. The technique lends itself to graceful, organic curves without resorting to chainsaws and grinders to remove extraneous material.

He married his beloved wife, Judith Nagot of New Canaan in 1960.
